I’m planning to play some golf in Salem, Oregon, and I’m on the hunt for public golf courses in the area. If you’ve played at any of the courses around here, I’d love to get your thoughts!
What I’m Looking For:
Course Quality: Are the fairways well maintained? How about the greens?
Difficulty Level: I’d like to know if the courses cater to beginners like myself or if they’re more challenging.
Amenities: Any insights on what amenities are available, such as clubhouses, driving ranges, or rental options?
Pricing: What can I expect to pay for a round of golf?
Best Time to Play: If you’ve got tips on the best times to go or any local leagues/initiatives to join, that’d be great!
Specific Courses I’ve Heard About:
Salem Golf Club
West Salem Golf Club
Minto-Brown Island Park Golf Course
If anyone has experiences with any of these or other suggestions, please share! I’m also interested in anything related to the local golf culture or any hidden gems that might not be as well known. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’ve played at Fairmount Park Golf Course. It’s a great option for beginners and has nice amenities! The staff is friendly too, which makes the experience better.
For something different, check out the course at Cascade High School. It’s straightforward but offers a unique setup. Plus, it’s a great way to support local education!
I recommend Woodburn Golf Club! It’s just a short drive from Salem and it’s very beginner-friendly. Plus, the scenery is beautiful, which makes a round enjoyable.
