Stiff Shaft vs. Regular Shaft: Which One Is Right for Me?

It really depends on your individual swing mechanics! A fitting can provide clarity, but ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you.

Trying a stiff shaft might feel like switching from a soft pillow to a rock—definitely something to get used to!

Haha, that’s a great mental image! I’m all about experimenting, but it’s definitely tough to switch once you’ve gotten used to one type.

I’m really curious about the differences between stiff and regular shafts. I’ve heard that shaft flex can impact distance and accuracy. What are your thoughts on it?

Great question, Matthew! I switched from regular to stiff last year. It took some getting used to, but I definitely noticed better control, especially on my drives.

There’s definitely a noticeable difference! When I moved to a stiff shaft, my ball flight became more stable. However, it’s vital to match the shaft with your swing speed.

I experimented with both types. Stiff shafts worked better for my faster swing, but I felt less power on slower swings. It’s all about finding the right fit for your style.

I think finding the right shaft is a personal journey. If you’re unsure, maybe get a fitting session? I went through one; it really cleared things up for me.

That’s solid advice! A fitting could help identify your ideal shaft flex. Anyone else had an eye-opening experience during a fitting?

I had a fitting a few months ago. They suggested a stiffer shaft, but I still prefer my regular one for my short game. It feels more comfortable and forgiving.

It’s funny how much debate there is around stiff vs. regular shafts. Just yesterday, I saw an argument on the course about it! Can’t we all just get along and play golf? LOL.

Ha! Yeah, I’ve seen those debates. I think everyone should just try both types themselves to see what works best.

Reflecting on my experience, switching from regular to stiff allowed me to gain more distance, but it took some time to adjust. It’s definitely worth experimenting!
