TaylorMade TP5 vs TP5x: Which Ball is Better for Your Game?

TaylorMade TP5 vs TP5x: Which Ball is Better for Your Game?

I’m looking to get some insights on the performance differences between the TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x golf balls. I’ve been hearing a lot about both, but I’m trying to figure out which one would suit my game better. Here are a few areas I’m particularly interested in:

Performance Characteristics

  • Spin Rates: How do the spin rates compare for each ball? I know the TP5 is marketed as having more spin, especially around the greens, but is that really noticeable?
  • Feel: What about the overall feel? I’ve read that the TP5 feels softer, but I’d love to hear firsthand experiences.
  • Distance: Do both balls perform similarly when it comes to distance? It seems like distance can vary based on swing speed, so any insights here would be helpful.
  • Suitability for Different Swing Speeds: Are there specific types of golfers that should lean toward one versus the other? I am a mid-handicap player with an average swing speed.

Reviews and Opinions

I’d appreciate any expert opinions or personal experiences with these balls. If you’ve switched from one to the other or have tried both extensively, what were the differences you noticed in your game?

Additional Thoughts

If there are specific conditions (like windy or wet weather) that affect the performance of either ball, please share your thoughts!

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I’ve been using the TP5 for a while now, and I really appreciate its feel around the greens. It helps with my short game significantly compared to the TP5x, which feels a bit firmer to me.

I agree! I find the TP5 gives me more control on approach shots, whereas the TP5x seems to let me hit longer drives.

Anyone tested both balls in terms of distance with a launch monitor? I’m curious if the differences are significant enough to warrant a switch.

I haven’t used a launch monitor, but I feel like the TP5x benefits my distance off the tee. Just my two cents.

I have a friend who swears by the TP5x for distance, but he also says he loses some control around the greens. What do you all think?

That’s exactly my experience! I prefer to stick with the TP5 for more touch on delicate shots.

The feel of the TP5 is quite unique; it almost feels like you can ‘feel’ the ball better when chipping or putting. Love it!

I laughed when trying the TP5x for the first time—it’s like hitting a rock! But I did gain extra yards, so it has its perks!

Haha! That’s a funny comparison! The TP5x might not be as soft, but the distance is hard to deny.

I’d like to see some stats on how they perform in windy conditions. I struggle with stability on certain days with both balls.

I switched from TP5 to TP5x and was blown away by the distance, but that softer feel is hard to part with. Ultimately, it’s a personal choice!

Totally! I think it really comes down to what aspect of your game you value more: distance or control.

I’ve faced a dilemma of choosing between the two; the TP5 feels great, but TP5x unleashes my drives! A tough decision!

Maybe the answer is to have one of each in your bag? Use them strategically!

Has anyone charted their scores since switching? I wonder if the change in ball makes a measurable difference in strokes.

I’ve tried both the TP5 and TP5x. As a beginner, I found the TP5x offers more distance, which really helped my game! I’m curious if advanced players prefer the spin of the TP5 for their short game.

I totally agree! I think the TP5 is better suited for intermediates who want better control. It’s all about what you’re looking for in your game.

I’ve been playing for a while, and I definitely prefer the TP5. The soft feel around the greens is unmatched, and it helps my short game immensely as an advanced player.

That’s interesting, Frank! I’m an intermediate player and the TP5 hasn’t worked well for my distance. Maybe I should try the TP5x instead!
