What are the best golf courses near Boston?

I’m on the lookout for the best golf courses near Boston and would love some recommendations. Whether public or private, I’m interested in knowing which places are worth playing at. Here are a few things I’m particularly curious about:

Course Quality

  • What’s the condition of the fairways and greens?
  • Are the layouts challenging but fun, suitable for varying skill levels?

Accessibility

  • How easy is it to book a tee time?
  • Are the courses typically crowded?

Facilities

  • Do they have good practice areas, like driving ranges or putting greens?
  • What kind of amenities do they offer, such as dining options or pro shops?

Personal Experiences

  • Have you had any memorable rounds at a specific course?
  • Are there any hidden gems that aren’t as widely known?

I’d really appreciate any insights, personal experiences, or recommendations you can share. Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to hitting some great courses this season!

If you’re looking for great public golf courses near Boston, I highly recommend Franklin Park. It’s affordable and has a welcoming atmosphere. The fees are reasonable and the facilities are well maintained.

Has anyone played at Stoneham? I’ve heard their greens are top-notch and reasonably priced too!

I played at Stoneham last summer. The course was indeed lovely, but watch out for the sand traps! You really need to plan your shots carefully.

Yes! You can’t go wrong with the Gillette Ridge course either; they’ve got some great facilities and a friendly staff.

I love Gillette Ridge! Great experience overall. Just a heads up, though, the fees can be a bit steep on weekends, so plan ahead if you want to save a few bucks.

I always check rates ahead of time on the course’s website. It’s helped me find good deals!

Another solid choice is the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park. I’ve had excellent round there with a great mix of skill levels. And it’s very friendly for all!

What about the Arnold Arboretum? It’s not a golf course, but it’s a lovely place for a round of disc golf if you’re open to something different!

Would love to hear more about disc golf as well! But back to the topic at hand, what about the scoring system at these courses? Are they consistent?

I find that most public courses are pretty consistent with their ratings. But, I’ve played at some where the staff didn’t seem to keep it updated – a bit frustrating!

Exactly! It can be a gamble unless you’ve played it before. Consistency is key for a good day of golf.

I’ll take a gamble if it comes with beautiful scenery! What are some favorite views from these courses? I love a good backdrop.

Definitely play at Pig’s Eye! The views of the mountains are breathtaking, and it’s a lot of fun too!

I didn’t know Pig’s Eye had such great views! Who knew golf could come with a side of nature therapy? Anyone got a funny golfing fail to share from there?

I once swung and missed so badly, I spun around and knocked over a water cooler! Let’s just say I was the show of the day!

If you’re looking for prestigious private clubs, my top pick is The Country Club in Brookline. The history is rich, and the course challenge is top-notch! Membership can be a bit pricey, but the benefits are worth it!

Speaking of history, has anyone played at Oakley Country Club? I’ve heard their facilities are fantastic, and the atmosphere is very welcoming.

Oakley Country Club is excellent! Great mix of challenge and fun. Plus, the member events they host make for a tight community. Definitely worth looking into if you can handle the membership fee.

I’m curious though, what about the waiting lists for these clubs? Are they as long as I’ve heard?
