I agree, the shoulder seasons are definitely the way to go. The courses are usually less crowded and the weather is still pleasant.
Any recommendations on specific public courses in Maine that are worth checking out? I’m planning a golf trip there this summer and want to make sure I hit the best ones.
Hey folks, I’d suggest checking out Sugarloaf Golf Club and Falmouth Country Club. Both are excellent public courses with stunning scenery and well-maintained greens. Just be aware that they can get pretty crowded during peak season.
Excellent suggestions! I played Sugarloaf a few years ago and it was an absolute blast. The views are breathtaking.
I’d also recommend checking out Maine Highlands Golf & Country Club in Dexter. It’s a bit off the beaten path, but the course is in great shape and the rates are very reasonable.
Ooh, I’ll have to add that one to my list. Can’t beat a good value golf course, especially in Maine where the greens fees can add up quickly.
Does anyone have experience with the weather conditions in Maine during the fall? I’m wondering if it’s still worth playing the public courses in October or November.
I’ve played a few courses in Maine in late October, and the weather can be hit or miss. Some days are still mild and sunny, but you have to be prepared for the possibility of rain, wind, or even a dusting of snow. I’d recommend checking the forecasts closely and being flexible with your tee times.
Wow, snow in Maine in October or November? That’s wild! I guess you really have to be prepared for anything when golfing up there that time of year. Good thing the green fees are usually cheaper during the off-season.
