As the weather starts to warm up, I’m wondering if it’s finally time to break out the shorts for my golf game. What are the typical conditions that make it comfortable to wear shorts on the course?
Things I Consider:
Temperature: What’s the ideal temperature for shorts?
Humidity: Does high humidity affect my choice?
Wind: Should I avoid shorts if it’s windy?
I want to stay cool but also be prepared for any temperature changes during the round. If anyone has tips or experiences on when you’ve deemed it acceptable to wear shorts while golfing, I’d love to hear them! How do you handle variable weather on the course? Share your thoughts!
In my experience, shorts weather for golfing usually starts around 70°F (21°C). But that can vary regionally; for instance, in Florida, it might be shorts weather earlier in the season than in the Midwest.
I’d say anything above 65°F (18°C) feels pretty good for shorts! But sometimes it’s not just the temperature — I’ll consider if it’s windy or sunny too.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, where 65°F can feel chilly with the cloud cover! We often wait until it’s at least 70°F and sunny to break out the shorts.
A lot of it really comes down to personal preference! Some guys wear shorts no matter what. I’m usually in shorts if it’s simply warm enough to play comfortably.
I think it really depends on personal comfort! It can be pretty hot out there. What do you all think about short styles and fabrics? I prefer lightweight, breathable materials.
I really like Under Armour for a good fit! It feels good and looks sporty. But at times, I wonder if wearing shorts is too casual for a more formal game. Thoughts?
That’s a good point, timothyhayes. I’ve seen people wear shorts in casual tournaments without issue, but it’s definitely a style choice. What’s the weather like where you play?
