I’ve been doing some research on the Titleist 714 AP2 irons, and I’m curious about what other golfers think of them. I’m considering purchasing a set, but I want to gather some insights before making a decision. Specifically, I’m interested in:
Performance and feel of the clubs
Comparison to other similar irons
Recommendations for different skill levels
Feedback on where to buy them—new or used?
Performance and Feel
I’ve heard a lot about how the 714 AP2 irons provide a great balance of workability and forgiveness. For those who have used them, how do they feel during the swing? Are they more suited for low handicappers, or do they cater to a wider audience?
Comparisons
If you have experience with other models like the 712 AP2 or even the newer 718s, how do they stack up? Are there noticeable differences in performance or feel? I’m particularly interested in how they perform in different conditions, like on the course versus the range.
Recommendations
As someone who’s been playing for a few years now, I’m curious if these clubs would still be beneficial for a mid-handicapper like myself. Would you recommend them for golfers starting to improve their games? Or should I look at something else?
Where to Buy
Lastly, I’d love advice on where to find a good deal on these irons. Are there any trusted online retailers, or would purchasing second-hand be a better option? What should I look out for to ensure I’m getting a quality set?
I appreciate any feedback or reviews you all have to share. Thanks in advance for your help!
I’ve been using the 714 AP2 irons for over a year now. They perform really well on soft ground; the feel is incredible. However, on harder surfaces, I sometimes feel like I lose a bit of control. Overall, they are solid clubs!
I find that on hard ground, a softer swing with these irons helps. Otherwise, you may get that dreaded ‘thinned’ shot! Just have to adapt your game a bit.
I’ve played in wet conditions a lot and they held up well. The grooves really do grip the ball, which helps on softer ground. Just need to wipe them often for best results!
I completely agree! The 714 AP2s are great for soft conditions, but I’ve had mixed experiences on hard ground. Anyone else feel like they can bounce too much?
Great insight, @jamesrodney! Wet conditions can be tricky, but I’ve also experienced superb spin with these in softer areas. They definitely shine under those conditions!
I’ve played with these in both rain and shine. On soft grass, they’re fantastic, but they lack a bit of versatility on dry grounds compared to some other brands. Just my two cents!
I love the sound these make at impact! But I do agree with you, @davidgordon, they don’t handle hard ground as well as I expected. Still, they feel amazing in the hands.
I’ve had these in my bag for a while now and honestly, they make me feel like a better player on soft terrain. That feeling is hard to beat, even if they are a bit tricky on harder conditions.
Never thought I’d say this about an iron set, but they actually bring a smile to my face! Just wish they didn’t bounce so much on hard ground. It’s like they’re trying to do a happy dance!
At the end of the day, the 714 AP2s will be worth it if you can adjust your game to their quirks. They serve well in most conditions as long as you’re mindful.
I’ve been using the Titleist 714 AP2 irons for over a year now. The feel is incredible, and they really help with control. Compared to my old Mizunos, they give me more distance without compromising accuracy!
I’ve tried the AP2s as well, and while I agree the feel is top-notch, I found them a bit heavier compared to others. Distance-wise, they do okay but don’t outshine my Ping i200s. Personal preference really plays a big role!
I echo that! The feel and control of the AP2s is pretty special. I think they excel in short games; just wish the long irons had a little more pop, though!
I’ve seen mixed opinions about these irons. They’re not as forgiving compared to some others in the market, so they might not be suitable for beginners. However, they truly shine for advanced players who focus on their short games.
