Looking for recommendations on best public golf courses in Atlanta

Hi everyone, I’m a passionate golfer looking for some advice on the best public golf courses in the Atlanta area. I’m relatively new to the city and have been struggling to find courses that offer a great golfing experience without breaking the bank.

I’m particularly interested in courses that have well-maintained fairways and greens, challenging yet enjoyable layouts, and good value for the money. I’d also love to hear about any hidden gems or lesser-known courses that are worth checking out.

As an avid golfer, I’m always looking to improve my game, so I’d appreciate any tips or insights you can share on the local golf scene. What are your favorite public courses in Atlanta and why? What factors do you consider when choosing a course to play? Any advice on maximizing my golfing experience in the city would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help!

For the best public golf courses in Atlanta, I’d recommend checking out Stone Mountain Golf Club. The conditions are generally well-maintained, with lush fairways and fast, true greens. The course offers a good mix of challenging holes and scenic views.

I’ve played there a few times and totally agree. The par 3s are particularly tough but a lot of fun. Have you tried any other public courses in the area?

I’m a big fan of the Cobblestone Golf Course in Acworth. The course is in excellent shape, with tight, tree-lined fairways and fast, sloping greens. It’s a real challenge, but very rewarding if you can manage to keep the ball in play.

Has anyone played the Charlie Yates Golf Course at East Lake? I’ve heard it’s a hidden gem with great conditions and an interesting layout. Might be worth checking out for something a little different.

I’ve heard great things about Cobblestone too. The tight fairways and challenging greens sound like they’d really test your game.

Has anyone played the Legacy Golf Links in the rain? I’d be curious to hear how the course holds up in wet conditions. Wondering if the drainage is decent or if it turns into a mud pit.

Hands down, my favorite public course in Atlanta is Atlanta Athletic Club. The facilities are top-notch, with a massive clubhouse, pro shop, and a variety of dining options. They also have a great practice range and several practice greens.

I agree! The greens are always in great shape, and the pace of play is usually pretty quick. Plus, the cart and club rentals are very reasonable.

Has anyone played at Druid Hills Golf Club? I heard they recently renovated the course and clubhouse. Wondering if it’s worth checking out.

Absolutely! I love the relaxed vibe and the 19th hole at the club. Great place to unwind after a round.

I think the best public course in Atlanta has to be Chastain Park Golf Course. The layout is challenging but fair, and the practice facilities are top-notch. Plus, the snack bar serves up some of the best burgers in the city!
