TP5 vs TP5x: Which Golf Ball is Right for Me?

I’m trying to decide between the TaylorMade TP5 and TP5x golf balls and would love to hear opinions from those who’ve played with them. I’m particularly interested in the following aspects:

Performance Characteristics:

  • Feel: How do the two compare in terms of softness or feedback on impact?
  • Control: Which ball offers better control around the greens?
  • Spin: How do they differ in spin rates, especially with wedges?
  • Distance: Is there a noticeable difference in distance off the tee?
  • Compression: How does compression affect performance for different swing speeds?

I swing at about [insert your swing speed] and am looking for a ball that complements my style. Any insights on which ball might suit my game better or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I recently switched from TP5 to TP5x. The TP5x definitely gave me more ball speed and distance, especially off the tee. It really feels lively on impact too!

I’ve noticed the same! The TP5 seems to offer a softer feel, which is great for short game shots, especially around the greens.

Does the TP5x have a significant advantage in spin rates? I am thinking of switching but need help understanding how they perform on approach shots.

Actually, the TP5 has more spin on approach shots, making it better for those tricky wedge shots. If you prioritize short game control, TP5 might be your friend!

It’s great to see everyone sharing their experiences! I love the TP5 for its feel, but the TP5x does have that extra pop off the driver. Perfect for those long par 5s!

For me, the TP5 feels just right, like it wraps around my ball like a warm hug! But I guess it’s a personal choice—what feels right for one may not be the same for another!

Haha, right? I joked with my buddy that I could almost hear the TP5x saying ‘let’s go fast!’ when I hit it.

I think the choice between TP5 and TP5x really comes down to your playing style. Are you more of a distance golfer or someone who concentrates on precision?

I tend to favor the TP5x for its overall distance, but I wonder if I’m sacrificing too much control around the greens. Anyone experienced that?

I felt that too! I sometimes wonder if I should just stick with TP5 on approach shots for that extra peace of mind.

At the end of the day, it’s about what suits your game best! Both balls have their unique strengths. Maybe try both and see what feels right under different conditions.

I’ve been playing with the TP5 for a while now and love the feel around the greens. The feedback is excellent, especially on chips and putts. I prefer its softer feel. Anyone else have thoughts on that?

I’ve tried both TP5 and TP5x. The TP5x feels a bit firmer, but I like the extra distance on my drives. It’s a trade-off for touch around the greens though.

I initially preferred the TP5 for its softer feel, but after trying the TP5x, I found I can still get good feel and feedback around the greens. It just took a bit of getting used to!

I love the TP5x for longer shots, but around the greens, the TP5 gives me that satisfying feel when I make the right contact. It’s all about how you prioritize distance vs feel, I suppose.

That’s interesting! I was wondering if the change in feel would really impact my short game. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Great point! I think I’ll stick with the TP5 for now, considering my focus is mostly on improving my short game for tournaments.

I’ve found that the TP5 feels very responsive on the greens, but I’ve heard some say the TP5x offers better spin. Which one do you think holds more backspin on approach shots?

Honestly, I’ve found the TP5 just as good for spin, if not better, than the TP5x on approach shots. It really depends on swing speed too!
