Hi everyone, I’m hoping to get some advice on improving my golf backswing. I’ve been working on my swing mechanics, but I’m struggling with the movement of my left knee during the backswing. It seems to be collapsing inward, which I think is causing some issues with my overall swing balance and consistency.
I’ve tried a few different things, like keeping my left knee more stable and trying to maintain the angle, but I’m still not seeing the results I’m looking for. My shots are often pulling or slicing, and I feel like I’m losing power and control.
Does anyone have any tips or drills they can recommend to help me better stabilize my left knee and improve the backswing motion? I’m willing to put in the practice, but I want to make sure I’m focusing on the right things. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
The left knee should flex and rotate slightly inward during the backswing. This allows the hips to turn properly and creates a stable base for power transfer. Make sure your weight is evenly distributed between both feet.

You want just a slight flex and inward rotation of the left knee, about 10-15 degrees. Any more and you’ll start to restrict your hip turn. Focus on keeping your weight evenly distributed and your left heel planted.

I disagree with the ‘up and out’ advice. That sounds like it could promote excessive lateral movement, which is a common flaw. I’d stick to a more subtle, rotational movement of the left knee. But hey, whatever works for you!

Hmm, I’ve noticed that my left knee tends to hyperextend during the backswing. I think it’s because I’m not engaging my core properly. Anyone have tips on strengthening the core to help with this issue?
Try some planks, hollow holds, and dead bugs. Those exercises have really helped me strengthen my core and improve left knee stability during the swing.
